Beach Bum is an obscure Macintosh choose-your-own-adventure game released as freeware in May 2000 by Tyler Debelak. It was written with Al Staffieri Jr.'s GameMaker and distributed on the AOL File Area. You play as a stick figure who must become a "man of the beach" and "pick up chicks" using only his tiny convertible, poorly constructed house, and pair of checkered swimming trunks. The game's sarcastic humor, crude but effective drawings, and egregious spelling mistakes put it in a strange limbo between straightforward fun and so-bad-it's-good.
In these pages, I have reimplemented Beach Bum in HTML to bring it to a new generation. Pictures and text are reproduced exactly, save for the addition of some notes (marked "Ed.").
