I've been on a productivity kick recently. I've consistently had a setup on my Mac whereby I can do anything by using either the mouse and keyboard, just the mouse, or just the keyboard. But only recently have I started to truly maximize my keyboard only setup, adding full keyboard navigation to Safari and studying the most advanced functionality offered by TextMate. It seemed only natural, then, to switch to a keyboard layout actually motivated by as opposed to against design principles. It'll take some time, but I'm getting there.

I love Dvorak, but only the John C. variety.

However Dvork was designed, the evidence that it's faster than QWERTY is at best mixed. You know that the story about QWERTY being designed to slow typists down is fiction, right?

I think it depends on the person. Someone could in fact be better at a certain design of keyboard despite the statistics. I think this is a pretty cool move, I'm a big fan of keyboards in general, so different ones spark my interest. Though I don't have the patience or desire to actually lean a new one.

I made a Dvorak topic some months ago, and Kodi linked to some literature. It was of such a nature that I pretty much gave up on Dvorak, although this might have been an effect of the Dvorak literature being in painfully indie 'zine form and the anti- literature being in a series of statistical evaluations.
I guess I just have a bias toward real things.

But now I need a way to retcon "Dvork" into not being a typo.

"No promises, niney."
It was a paronomasia: you're calling him a "dvork" for his keyboard layout choice.

Perfect.

Anyone have a link to the literature? I'd like to take a look.

The links I gave Wil are probably here:

AMan, I have some legit questions. How many weeks into using it are you? Have you taken any formal training? Did you re-label the keys on your keyboard? Do you type faster, more comfortably, more accurately? Are there any cons (other than the effort of retraining)?
