Any of you guys realize that a band you like, you'd probably hate or at least not care for if you were your current age when first exposed to them? I'm listening to Thursday and kinda thinking that.
Anybody else got bands they probably only like because they were younger when they heard them?
Oh hell yeah. I have a complete Smash Mouth discography. And a complete Vertical Horizon discography. And most of a complete Styx discography, although in fairness I recently found out that Styx is prog-pop (y'know, upon discovering prog and being able to make that determination) so I'd probably still enjoy them in the way that I enjoy, like, Whitesnake.
But I still occasionally rock out to the following embarrassing bands and artists:
-Ninedays
-Avril Lavigne (Let Go was an amazing album that was so artless that it transcended artlessness)
-Maroon 5
-Billy Joel
-U2 (again with the Zoo Station as with the Let Go)
-Green Day (Dookie is still nostalgiamazing, but sounds boringly simplistic; American Idiot got a bit better with that, but it was one step forward, two steps back)
-The Offspring
Actually outside of a Crazy Taxi sort of scenario I don't think I've listened to the Offspring in years. I discovered Alkaline Trio and they were an unimpeded upgrade for what they are, sort of like Styx -> Rush. But I guess if pressed I could still rock out to the Offspring.

I had the terrible misfortune of liking Simple Plan for about a year when I was younger.
As I've gotten older I have strayed from my teenage music a lot though. I continue to like a lot of alt rock, but usually the mellower stuff. Though I still like Muse and Breaking Benjamin a lot, they are pretty badass.
Other than that I've made a large shift to some classical, as well as, of course, some Bob.

I always feel like that when I'm picking out new songs to get in Rock Band with my roommates, and all three of us will often be like, "Shut up, I like it" to something that might be slightly embarrassing. Our last run through of purchases was basically a set of songs because we miss the 90s, which culminated in my having "All-Star" by Smash Mouth stuck in my head for days.

I kinda miss Smashmouth! I'm surprised you guys think you wouldn't like them now. Astrolounge was cool man.
I've bought about 4 cds in my life. Smash Mouth was two of them. I regret that.
Though I will always remember the good times of jamming out to Allstar with my pal Brandon.

I love Weezer's green album. As a seventh grader, it was the first piece of modern music I really related to and loved. A year or so later I heard Pinkerton and blue album which I immediately recognized as superior, but the green album still holds a special place in my heart, whereas most other people just view it as a power pop letdown.
