In the topology class I've taken this semester, it seems like food analogies are everywhere I look. You know the old joke about donuts and coffee cups. Solid tori can then be thought of as jelly donuts. We computed the Euler characteristic of the 3-torus using a partition of a cube that was reminiscent of cheese. We proved a theorem about path homotopies by cutting up a two-dimensional space as one would cut up lasagna. Our textbook gives diet-induced weight loss as an example application of the intermediate-value theorem, and describes the behavior of the tent function in terms of kneading a hunk of raisin-bread dough. And don't forget about the ham-sandwich theorem. The list goes on.

If f_n is continuous on [a, b] for all n, (f_n(x)) is nonincreasing for each x, and (f_n) goes pointwise to a continuous f, then (f_n) goes to f uniformly.
