I thought I'd take initiative and get the discussion of such a potentially amazing event started again. How is Saturday evening looking for all of you, say some time after 6:00 PM CST?

I now have no Windows partition and hence no operating system on which I can get Skype to run. I don't suppose we could use SIP instead?

XMPP (aka Jabber) might also work for me.

I'm not familiar with either of those programs, but is there a way that one of us could use Skype, as well as one of those at the same time, to do something analogous to taking two telephones, turning one upside down, and making a connection that way? Like making Skype's audio output an input for the other program, and vice-versa? If so, I think that'd be a reasonable compromise. But I'll be honest in saying that I wouldn't have a clue how to set it up.

Well, the easy way to do that would result in terrible sound quality, and the hard way would be beyond me and may not even be possible in Windows.
SIP and XMPP aren't programs but protocols. Programs that implement voice chat via XMPP include Google Talk and Pidgin, but I'm not sure they make voice chats between more than two people possible. For SIP, see:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_SIP_software#Free_and.2For_open_source_software
You can get an account at https://www.ekiga.net/, which is also the website of a SIP client program (a "softphone") of the same name. Here I should probably warn you that SIP is tricky to set up if you're behind a router.
But y'know, it seems that the chance of organizing a true poly-PMSian conference is slim. And is that what we want, anyway? We'd all have to take turns talking; it wouldn't be easy to break up into small groups or pairs as in a real-life meeting. For these reasons, I'm thinking we're probably better off just trying to organize voice chats between pairs. So, Mark, would you like to talk to me? It would probably be easiest if you created an XMPP account at http://www.jabber.org and used Pidgin (http://pidgin.im/) to call me.
Of course, there's always good old-fashioned telephony.

New strategy: I'm on Skype nearly every night as it is anyway, so every time I get on for the night, I'll post in this topic. If you want to talk, hit me up!

Of course, I hope this leads to something larger as well.

Saturday evening probably isn't as good as say, Sunday evening. But if everyone else is down, then I am too!

On Skype now! Maybe my strategy isn't working. Or the fact that I live on the west coast.

Well cuh-lamity, looks like I got Linux Skype working. I'm user KodiArfer. Any PMSian who wants to may call me, although I don't plan to sign on to Skype much without having already arranged to talk. I should be free most of this week except for tomorrow.
I'd call you, Jon, but I usually go to bed at 9 PM (6 PM PST).
OKid and Spock, you should tell us your Skype names.

I'd rather not post it here, but I'll send all of you a message consisting of "PaperSpock" so that you'll know its me.
