I went to the release, though didn't buy it then because that line wrapped around the block. But the song the Presidents of the United States of America wrote was pretty cool.

I got myself a copy of White. Started with Tepig.

I snagged Pokemon White as well but haven't had as much of a chance to play it as I would like. I started with Oshawott and named it Scallopini.

I also got White, choose Snivy. A bit odd, this is the first time I didn't go with the water starter, but he looked ugly.

I got so screwed going with a water starter in Pearl (or whichever one I got; I think it was Pearl) that I am not making that mistake again. Having to carry around that useless Ponyta until it learned Ember--which, with its low Special Attack, was nigh useless as well, though still marginally less useless--was some bull, yo.
Also, no, I did not pick up black or white.

Willis, it seems like every other time you post, I need to look up a word that's in the OED or Urban Dictionary but not both.

I went with Oshawott because I'd gone with Torterra, Venusaur, Blaziken, and Typhlosion the last few Pokemon games that I've played and I figured it was time I gave the water one a shot.

I've considered it. I haven't gotten a Pokemon game since Ruby/Sapphire, though...

That's no reason not to get it, Brandon. It's not like Pokemon has continuity.
I was pretty surprised/impressed, though, that the plot of the game challenges the very premise by having the antagonists be for Pokemon Liberation. (And there are various subplots addressing the fact that children go off on these journeys alone [albeit with their Pokemon]).

My real obstacle is that I just don't play video games that much anymore. Like, the last game I purchased, outside of my seasonal Madden, was Super Mario Galaxy...

All this talk of Pokemon has really made me want to get it...
Perhaps I should go back in time and get some of the older ones (FireRed, Platinum, etc.) first.

I'd say just jump right in with the new ones. When I got Diamond/Pearl, I hadn't played since Red/Blue, and it was great. It really made minor advancements seem hugely significant.

just finished EV training my Firepig for Attack points in the first patch of grass. took me three hours to get to the sign that says "Route 1"

I'm with Nick. The only stuff you missed was the weird stat building breeding stuff that you're probably not going to be that interested in anyway. Everything else was just a massive graphical upgrade and some new types that don't necessarily make sense, but they don't make less sense than the old ones.
