I would have thought that the Water-type would have run away with this one. It's (generally) easily the most common one to see, yet Fire-type has a vast lead.

I, myself, ALWAYS go Fire when I start a new generation game (Charmander in Red, Cyndaquil in Gold, Torchic in Ruby), so I'm a little disappointed to see that I'm in the majority.

I always expected it to be:

1. Water
2. Fire
3. Grass

What type do you guys choose?

I also always choose fire. But then, I haven't played since Sapphire.

I played only Red (for which I chose Bulbasaur) and Silver (for which I chose Totodile).

It surprises me that none of the newer games use a different type triangle for the starters, like Electric, Ground, and Flying.

I'm a fire guy myself. Aside from thinking Charmander was (is) awesome, I guess I liked the challenge of not having a water or grass type for the first two gyms in Red and Blue.

Well, none of the other triangles have exactly the same type of dynamic. Electric Ground Flying doesn't work because it has 2-immunities and 1 resistance, plus Flying isn't super-effective against Ground.

The only other triangle I can think of off-hand that is as balanced is Fighting/Flying/Rock, but giving your rival a Rock type Pokémon at the beginning of the game ensures you won't beat him in that early battle.

I usually choose the Water type (though I didn't this time).

While I shared Pooty's assumption, as I noted in the other topic, I have been burned too many times by the abundance of water types and the paucity of fire (n=1) that should I play such a pocket monster game again, rest assured I will not be starting with a water.

Willis, it seems like every other time you post, I need to look up a word that's in the OED or Urban Dictionary but not both.

I went with fire for the first 3 (Charmander, Cyndaquill, and Torchic), but went with grass for the last one (Uhh...the turtle one... No clue what his name is), and whenever I do get the new ones, I've heard the grass type is a bada**, so yeah =P

I expected it to be 1. Fire 2. Water and 3. Grass
