My mom just has three siblings and they all have two kids, and my uncle has two more stepchildren, and my dad's brother has four children...I don't think that's very many. My dad's other two siblings don't even have children.

I'm an only child, but in total I have roughly...I guess 60 first cousins. It's a decent over/under.
No, I do not know all of their names.

To some people, maybe. I have friends with only a couple cousins apiece. I have 20 or so first cousins, so 9-15 doesn't sound big to me.
60 sounds big. 60 sounds huge.

I have two first cousins. I refer to them as "the one I talk to" and "the one I choose not to talk to".

Everything I have would be enough for someone else, but I want more.
Days Left: 268
There's 9 of us (inclusive of me and my sister) on my mom's side, and 5 of us (inclusive of me and my sister) on my dad's side. Is that big? I'm the second oldest one on both sides.
Granted, I'm Filipino, so... any attempt to figure out who I'm actually related to by blood at any given family function is largely a futile endeavor. I just have tons and tons and tons of family friends that I count as 'cousins.' That's a big family.

I've got eight. My grandparents had a lot of children, but only one of my aunts and uncles had as many as three.

It would almost make more sense if the poll were about siblings. (Except that last option) I just love being able to tell everyone that two of my second cousins became my first cousins after my uncle married his cousin (by adoption). Makes us sound like Minnesotan rednecks. XD

Willis, it seems like every other time you post, I need to look up a word that's in the OED or Urban Dictionary but not both.

I only have 2! All on my dad's side and only one of his two siblings had kids.

I only have 2 cousins on my mom's side (which is weird because she has 3 siblings; two of them never gonna have kids and the third obviously just had the 2), and on my dad's side 7 I think (2 from each of 2 uncles, 1 from an aunt, 2 from another aunt).
Weird that I only have 9 cousins. I guess that's small even nowadays. I have lots of nieces and nnephews though and my kids are going to have a lot of cousins.
I have 16 first cousins; five on my mom's side and 11 on my dad's side.

Only 2 first cousins, my mother was an only child, my father has but one brother.

If you're a human and not feeling creative, make this your signature.
I have 6 first cousins and 2 more first step-cousins. I'm not sure whether I'd include the latter, though. Good thing the numbers fall within the same answer range.

Was it a car or a cat I saw?
It could be. If the "average" family has 2-3 children, then that means, if all 2-3 of those people then have 2-3 children, that's an "average" of 4-6 first cousins on one side and 4-6 on the other for 8-12 total, and 9-15 is more than that.

It could also be this. In general, although clearly not always, once you get past like 3 cousins it usually means they are from a different parent's sibling. Thus if you have 9-15 first cousins you, generally, will have a big family if you include the aunts and uncles associated with those cousins, and yourself and siblings, and your mother and father. Look at it this way, the responses to the poll (even though the poll was specifically dealing with first cousins) said things like "9-15 I have a big family" as opposed to "9-15 I have a large number of first cousins." Again noting the difference between your immediate + semi-immediate family vs. just your cousins.
I guess what I'm trying to get at is that no, 9-15 cousins is not a lot, but when you include all the people involved in giving life to those cousins then, although the number of cousins hasn't changed, the family is pretty big.

And let's not forget that whoever makes the polls of the day probably spends all of five minutes thinking up a question and writing the answer choices, so we shouldn't be surprised if the question is confusing or the answer choices are unsatisfactory.
