First I had to raise a Pokemon team for the tournament I ran at I-Con (I was a Gym Leader), so that was challenging because I felt like I had to play. Although maybe I didn't need to do so well, no challenger beat me.
Now I'm trying to finish Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep on my flatmate's PSP before he moves to San Francisco. I've got until Saturday morning, but my vacation ends tomorrow.

This is sort of like two summers ago when I had until the end of summer to beat FFX. I got stuck on the boss at the mountain and nearly gave up.
And then I finally beat it and attained the airship shortly after, at which point I was overwhelmed by sidequests and never finished the game. Oops.

I've had a similar thing with obviously dying systems. I had to marathon Mass Effect 2 last spring, I thought, because I had to finish it before my PC couldn't take the heat anymore. That is a pain not like grinding in pokemon, though.

Willis, it seems like every other time you post, I need to look up a word that's in the OED or Urban Dictionary but not both.

You were a Gym Leader, James? I hope you specialized in Flying-types.

No, I actually specialized in Triple Battles.

Well, it's better than what I usually do. I normally put an enormous amount of time into a game (30+ hours) and then just stop playing.
Biggest violators-
FFXII: Probably close to 150 hours with all the files I've done. My current one has 70 hours I think, and I gotta go to the Feywood. I have yet to beat it once.
FFX: You take away Blitzball and I stop playing. Nuff said. I think I've where Kylo said he was up to though.
FFXIII: Love the game, but I just haven't been playing much lately...
...I guess Final Fantasy games just can't hold my attention...

I've not beaten VIII, XII, or XIII, despite being over half way through all of them.

I hate rushing through games because I feel like I'm not getting the full enjoyment out of them. I suppose if you had no choice for an event you would have to, but I generally like to take my time with games (not really into 100%, though).
Spock, you should definitely finish those. I finally got around to beating FFXII last summer, and it was a lot better than what I had originally thought. Granted, it did take me three attempts to get through the game (I got a little bit further each time). How far are you in each, if I may ask?
Sadly, I did not get to beat it in time. I got up to the final boss of the third story, which would only have been followed by the final episode that ties all 3 stories together.

One of the reasons I'm not a huge fan of video game reviews from most publications/websites/etc.
Also, in regards to the Final Fantasy thing, I got about 90% through FFX and realized I wasn't having any fun at all and stopped playing.

I think I'm about to go to Lunatic Pandora in VIII, I think I'm about to do the boss gauntlet in the lighthouse, and in XIII, I'm not to the open ended chapter yet, but I think I'm to the chapter before it.
At any rate, the stuff leading up to finals is keeping me very busy so I don't expect to get to any of them soon. I tend to play XII in short bursts, about once every half a year or more, the next time I decide to play I'll probably be able to finish it in a few days. My opinion on it is that the gameplay is decent, but it wears thin after long periods of time, and plot points don't happen often enough to keep me motivated to keep playing, so my interest dies after a certain amount of time.
XIII at least has more frequent plots, but suffers similarly. VIII is the hardest to explain, it holds my interest the best of the three, its more out of a lack of time than anything else, I suppose.

That sucks, Jace... I didn't get too far in BBS, but it's a shame that you couldn't finish it.
Nick, if you got 90% of the way through, why not finish it? It just seems a shame to let all of that go to waste. Also, if it took you 90% of the game to realize you weren't having fun, you might have been having fun but not realized it.

Is there any way in which having fun but not realizing it can be empirically distinguished from not having fun?

"And if thy right eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee…"
There's a distinction be made between "fun" and occupation, I guess. You can be occupied by something but not actually enjoying it.
I am reaching that threshold with Assassin's Creed. It begins to overstay its welcome.
