What did you give? What did you get?

The best thing I gave Jess was this awesome stock pot that she wanted, for making chili and stuff. The best thing she gave me was a big hunting knife.

What on earth will you do with such a thing? Or is it more for decoration?

I'm planning to do some survival camping in the not-too-distant future.

I gave my mom a book she wanted, my sister a crazy reversible journal (like the Jacob's ladder toy in book form), and my dad some winter ale a friend recommended.

I got a hand-knitted scarf, some shirts, a strange/funny book from the late 1800s, and Skyward Sword/Skyrim. Of course, right after I finish installing Skyrim, my computer's power supply fries and apparently takes my motherboard with it. -_- I'll be heading to Microcenter tomorrow.

What I gave this year:

To my four friends who live in the same apartment that let me sleep over when I need to stay in Seattle:
Books:
The Tipping Point (Malcolm Gladwell)
Domo In The World (picture book featuring Domo-kun)
The Prophet (Kahlil Gibran)
Press Here (interactive picture book)

These guys are always welcoming with a place to stay; I got them some coffee table books as a housewarming present and I got them these to complement the ones that I gave them originally. Two of them are studying/studied psychology and philosophy in undergrad, so I got them my favorite pseudo-psychology and pseudo-philosophy books, as well as two fun books because I knew they would like them.

To my two friends who also live in the same apartment who let me sleep over when I need to stay in Seattle:
3 months of XBox Live
A Yu-Gi-Oh! "Dawn of the XYZ" starter deck

The 3 months of Live were for the guy who owns the XBox who likes playing FIFA against people online; the YGO cards were for the other guy who me and my friends introduced to YGO via "Dueling Network" online; I got him the physical cards so he could play with his girlfriend who also plays the card game.

For my mom:
Various lotions from Bath & Body Works
LOTR: The Two Towers (book)
LOTR: Return of the King (book)
The Golden Compass

My mom really likes the lotions from Bath & Body Works. My sister's boyfriend got my mom in to LOTR, and she read the first book but she hasn't the second or third, so I got her those. And when she finishes those, I got her The Golden Compass to hopefully get her into that series as well.

For my dad:
Six sets of various guitar strings for his guitars

He asked for these specifically; he plays a lot just for recreation and also at church and gigs and stuff, so I knew that he needs it.

For my sister:
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows DVDs (both parts I and II)

I got her a HP 1-6 DVD gift set last year for Christmas and I wanted to complete her set this year.

What I got:
A new pair of sweatpants
A cardigan sweater
A couple Starbucks gift cards
A little cash
A small box of chocolates from Hawaii
A small games set with a deck of cards, a few game boards, and generic markers to use

I'd say this is one of the first times I really feel accomplished with my gift giving this Christmas. I'm making a lot less than I was at this time last year but I managed to save up enough to get my family and close friends some (in my opinion) nice things for the holidays, and I got some nice things in return. Overall I'm really happy about all of this.
