Sink apartment nightmare.

Last night, the kitchen sink in my apartment quit draining. Turning on the garbage disposal spewed up something that looked like paint flecks. I called my apartment's property management office, they were closed but left me with an "emergency number." I contacted that, and got a voicemail. It's been almost a day, and I still haven't heard back from them (I've called them several times since). I had it down to a reasonable level (I'd used two buckets, a smaller one to fill the larger one, which I then flushed). It stayed that way until noon today, when I heard a gurgle from the kitchen, and it was rapidly filling, and was that way for about 3 hours or so.

In between all this, I called a different plumber, they just said they couldn't work without the permission of the building owner. So I'm more or less stuck watching it (I don't know when it might suddenly act up again) until Monday, which dashes my plans to go see John Oliver, who I'd bought tickets for over a month ago. At this point, I'm just hoping it calms down long enough for me to feel like I can go to sleep, and that I can make it through tomorrow without going crazy.

Oh, and I just got a call from my dad that my grandmother is acting incoherent (the one who hadn't been diagnosed with dementia); she mentioned that she'd been meaning to call her mother and she hadn't for a while; her mother's been dead over 30 years.

After tracking down an employee on facebook, I've finally made some progress. I've been given the name of the city sewer service that I can call tomorrow.

Good stuff getting ahold of somebody. I was half expecting Mith to come in here and somehow fully diagnose exactly what was going on with your sink and how to get it to behave properly. I'm also sorry to hear about your grandmother; I hope that she's all right.

The guy came, and is fixed now, I'm glad to have this behind me.

Oh, and my grandmother's not in any immediate danger, anyway, though she's still been saying some forgetful sounding things, but not to the extent that she had been.

Oops, too late I guess. Blockage near the septic vent?

And I'm sorry to hear that about your grandmother. It's always rough when that starts to occur. Here's hoping it's a temporary fugue.

From what I could gather from the plumber, it was a clog in a place that made the stuff from the apartment above me end up in my sink instead of draining through the proper pipes.
