No. Did have a hand at VVVVVV, though, and that was pretty intense. Especially this one optional trinket. Over 500 deaths on that alone.

A tough video game is nice to see, nowadays. They seem to be made with only very limited challenge to them.

I don't think this is just ramblings of someone looking back on the "good old days," I think it's just plain true. What happened to the Battletoads and Marble Madness and Zombies Ate My Neighbors?

Video-game developers got all "Video games should be movies!". That is, with lots of cutscenes and pretty graphics and with gameplay designed more to make you feel immersed than to challenge you.

Have I ever mentioned that I don't really like movies?
