...makes it quite difficult to pick up and beat when you finally get back to it. Because there's not much space to relearn how to play.
(In this case I didn't play it for months because the game/PSP belonged to my old roommate, who moved across the country. But when I visited him last week, I borrowed it and he'll get it back on his next visit.)

I've got a real bad habit of doing the same. Not as far as the final boss, but extended amount of time put into it.
My general trend with games:
1. Play game
2. Love it
3. Put extended amount of time into game (40-60 hours)
4. Stop playing
5. Start playing again later (6+months)
6. Start over.
7. See step 1
Games currently suffering from this infinite loop- FFXII (to the point where I've done this 4-5 times. Incredible first 4-5 hours though...), Persona 3, Tales of the Abyss, Baten Kiatos: Eternal Wings and the Lost Ocean, Mass Effect 2
...Yes all RPGs...
What game was it anyway?

I've never beaten the final boss of Metroid Prime for this reason.
Also, that on again off again loop happens to me to, though mainly with RPGs, And actually, FFXII was one of them.
