So I finally caved and bought Skyrim

It was on sale on Amazon, so I picked it up. Unfortunately I had it mailed to the wrong address, so I spent basically what I saved going back to my parents' house to pick up my package (and also a hat I had left there, but it was worthwhile because it was a signature hat). Also in the end I got free dinner, so I guess it was worth it.

But now it's lamentably too late in the day to begin playing Skyrim. Alas.

It is never too late to start playing Skyrim. That game will easily suck out your soul at any point during the day. It took me 300 odd hours to finally tear myself away from it (partially, still need a fix every now and again).

I've looked at the world for quite a few years now and I've found that if I don't laugh, I'll probably end up crying.

I'm hoping so. I was pretty "meh" about New Vegas, so I'm hoping that was the setting. I won't waste any more precious bandwidth talking about my lust for Morrowind, or the fantastic execution of the Shivering Isles, but there it is.

Oh you mean late in the day. If I weren't going to a concert tomorrow and weren't out of coffee and didn't have that half day coming up on Friday etc. I want to be able to drop a couple of hours on it, and it's just not responsibly going to happen tonight.

Soon, though. Soon.

Try to give yourself between 4 and 6 hours for the first time. Well worth it.

The downside? You will be setting a precedent for future forays into Tamriel.

Pretty game is pretty.

Honestly, I don't want to touch Skyrim BECAUSE of the open-ended nature. I have completionist tendencies, and get antsy when it's possible for me to attain 100%.

I never actually do get 100% completion in anything, but if it isn't even attainable, I get frustrated.

At about 120 hours in I realized that I hadn't been having fun for about 30-40 hours.

That said, the game's terrific.

See that's where I ended up in Fallout. Like 30 hours in I realized that I had maxed out on interesting things and was sick of killing super mutants.

Ugh. Work ran long and then my friends I was going to meet at 7:00 got wind of my half day and now we're meeting at 4:00. Curse my various inconvenient blessings.

I got it for Christmas and it took me a month or 2 to start playing. Fantastic game, but I found myself missing some things from Oblivion...but loving some of the new additions. The load times are KILLER though...

Welp looks like I need to upgrade my video card. I knew this was coming, but it still stings.

So which race and play style(mage/archer/etc) do you plan on doing?

I haven't played skyrim in a while... I have the ps3 version and was angered by bethesda... >_> After all the patches though I'll probably go back eventually and restart it.

I've got the 360 version and loved it when I was playing.

Argonian, and I switched around my playstyle =p

My first character was (as always) a Dunmer battlemage who has reached level 76 and is now basically a physical god, excelling equally at swordplay, sneak attacks, and blasting enemies' faces off with free Thunderbolts and Lightning Storms. Now I'm trying a Bosmer archer/thief/assassin that I'm role-playing more.

CSBE FTW!
DarthMarth - Better than a bowl of Cheerios.

Dunmer Nightblade is my usual go-to, but now I'm just kind of running around with a bow and arrow and then closing and throwing fire at things. I pretty seriously need a better spell to work with, but at the same time I love that everybody is illiterate so there's only one place you can buy spells (and everybody else has like a copy of Clairvoyance and the fire poke spell).

Alright, so I end with the most important question of all: Should I be a werewolf? I assume yes, because they seem to turn back and forth at will (or something like it), and because they're metal as hell.

Ah, no Khajiit?! >_> Interesting though. Anyway my main non-glitched character is a Khajiit archer. I also like using enchanting... <3 enchanting. >_>

Before you turn into a werewolf, you might want to wait for some details about the new DLC, because it APPEARS to focus on vampire stuff and might have some cool new abilities, AFAIK you can't be a vampire while you are a werewolf(without glitches at least).

Also crossbows!!
#019 | willis5225 |
I got soured on Khajiit in Morrowind because you couldn't wear boots, and thus couldn't wear the absolutely-essential-because-of-poor-foresight Boots of Blinding Speed. I'm open to having a go at it now (though if I play a second character it's probably going to be a brawler; I run and shoot a ton now).

Speaking of which, what's with dragon priests? I mostly just run away from them, and honestly had to look them up on uesp.net to even find out that "dragon priest" is a thing. Do I just need to wait until I >50% shock resist or something?

Yeah, fortunately the Khajiit evolved their feet lol >_> It's a simple thing but their Night eye really helps me out a lot.

Oh boy, those things are evil. >_> I'm not sure if I've ever beat them on my main character. >_> If I did it was probably thanks to staying away, using arrows and a partner. IIRC I ran down a mountain to run away from one onetime... >_>

Apparently new DLC details have come out and Werewolf and Vampires are both getting their own perk trees!! Yeah!
#021 | willis5225 |
Yeah. I also have run down mountains. The worst was when I was fleeing from some of those things that raise Forsworn Champions (oakhearts or whatever) and I fled into a dungeon that turned out to end with a dragon priest, which ended with me running away again.
