What are your theories on Amon?

Realistically, I'm guessing someone tied to Tarlok, though I'm not sure who. Hiroshi was a decent bet, but he's apparently a lackey.

Going a bit crazy, I'm wondering if there could be two avatars (Note: Buffy spoilers too)if Aang died at the end of Season 2, a la Buffy season 1's death causing Kendra. I somewhat doubt this, but the possibility amuses me.

Heh, that would be amusing. And would in theory explain Amon's ability to spirit-bend...

My current theory is that it's one of Tenzin's siblings.

Well, regardless, I'm pretty convinced that Amon is secretly a bender and that's really only doing this to gain power.

Amon is that one firebender that goes around killing people's family members and setting them on the path to unhappiness.

I'm also a fan of the theory that Amon's powers stem from blocking full chakras rather than just normal chiblocking, but we'll see if that pans out.

I'm glad that Korra could call Tarlok a weasel-snake, since I'm sure that animal exists in Avatar world.

Also, wtf, Tarlok.

Yeah, Tarlok dialed his McCarthyism up to 11, I was half expecting him to start asking people, "Have you now or have you ever been a member of the equalist party?"

Also, how did you read Tarlok's reaction to Korra's "You're almost as bad as Amon?" when his eyes flared for a moment? My initial take was that it was disdain for being compared to him, but I've heard other interpretations.

Oh, and humorwise, I'm not sure which was funnier, "yes yes no no 10552" or when Korra and friends tried to hop on Naga.

Side note: I'm not sure what to call Korra and friends, there hasn't been a widely accepted term yet, like Gaang for the original series. I've heard Krew, which makes me think of Donkey Kong Country, and Korralition, which I often misread as Korralation.

Meelo won the humor contest for me.

"We shall meet again soon, beautiful woman!"

Although Tenzin came really close.

"But you really are the worst! EVER!"

I think we actually see Asami's first character flaw in this episode. She seems pretty jealous when she sees Mako and Korra in the back seat. Up until this point, she came across as kind of a perfect character.

Wow, that somehow felt more intense than last episode. LOVED Meelo answering the phone. I hope Asami doesn't betray everyone over her jealousy at some point, that would make her seem petty and I wouldn't want to see her do that.

Concerning Aang's flashback, I wonder where Katara was. Also, why was Aang so grumpy? I was hoping he'd end up more like Iroh.

I'm totally unsure where the series is going now. I figured it would be Amon vs. Tarrlock in the final episode, and they'd have an amazing battle, and the winner would be the season 2 villain.

A little disappointed in Amon, too, for de-bending the metalbending cops. Until then, he'd only de-bended those who had openly abused their bending or power; it is the first time he's bended someone I'd I'd consider good, which makes him seem less complex.

Lastly, how could Amon resist bloodbending? I know Aang in the avatar state was able to, leading me to think that my crazy theory is at least a little more plausible.

I was a little unhappy that Tarlock was de-bended so soon after we saw the flashback where Aang did it. Like, I feel like there should have been something like Korra having to deal with the fact that, as far as she knows, the only one who can stop Tarlock is Amon.

Man, Tenzin is such a badass. So is Asami, for that matter.

And poor Lin!

I'm glad that Tenzin finally did badass things in this episode. And I was literally all "LIN NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO"

Jinora is still my favorite minor character (Meelo is a close second). I love that she has the same "I don't give a damn" attitude just like Mei did.

Also, I was childishly amused that Meelo is a fart & burp-bender.

At this point, I'm trying to guess the ending. If the whole thing got made before season 2 was planned, then this might play out as a series finale might be expected to.

In that case, a cool ending would be Korra discovering how to bestow bending upon anyone, rendering arguments against inequality useless, as Korra can give it to any reasonable person who wants it, or somehow making everyone instantaneously a bender, to similar effect.

I feel like that's counterproductive to the show's overall message (between both this show and Airbender), where they tried to make it a point where it didn't matter if you could bend or not; it's what you do with the potential that you have within that matters. The line that makes that stick out to me is when that one woman begs Korra to help save them and she says, "You're our Avatar, too," or something to that effect. Between Sokka, Asami, and even Sato, they've showed that it's not bending abilities but the way you use whatever innate abilities you have that affects how much impact you can have on the world.

I admit I hadn't thought of it that way, and my youngest sister actually argued the same thing when I mentioned the idea to her.

Good ending. Funnily, I was talking with a friend of mine right before watching the finale (he's only up to episode 5), and he thought Amon's power came from bloodbending. I dismissed it, because I didn't think they would make him one when they made Tarlok one. (Because he wouldn't have known that yet.)

And here we are. I don't even know what Season 2 would be about, season 1 ended so succinctly.

Yeah, I guess they didn't know they were doing more than a miniseries until after finalizing the plot. The one thing that I think would make sense to do is explore the inequality between benders and nonbenders. His motivations may have been wrong, but Amon had SOME points, and I don't think The anti bender sentiment will disappear that quickly.

Among The things I'd like to see next season are more Bumi and more Aang.

Just ran through the whole first season today. I really like it, and now I feel bad that I couldn't join in on the speculation earlier. And that I didn't watch the original series first. Welp, there's next season.
