PMS Pager: Fred and Jon

So I'm going to be in Seattle next week. It's partly a reward to myself for finishing a marathon and partly a much needed break from my daily grind. I'm going to try to hit most of the major tourist attractions. What obscure places (and by that, I mean places that aren't traditionally thought of when people think of Seattle, I guess) should I try to see while I'm there?

You… you're not going to have a PMS convention? Not that I would be willing to fly over there in order to join in.

Haha, I know that it's fairly short notice and the guys are fairly busy people.

HOWEVER, if either of them are free on Thursday June 7, I'm actually meeting ZB that day. The more, the merrier!

What kinds of places are you already thinking of going to? From there I can make some suggestions.

So far I know for sure I want to tour Century Link Field, go up in the Space Needle, and check out the Boeing Museum. I think I may also take the underground tour, see the library, and check out that place where they throw the fish (Pike Place Market?). There's a Brandi Carlile concert on the 5th that I may see too if I make it back from Boise in time to attend.

I'll probably just be working on June 7th (a Thursday, right?) so I'll be unavailable from 8-5 but likely free after that if you guys are near the UW.

Going on the underground tour is fun but rather time consuming. It's nice for some Seattle history (which I'm super nerdy for) and I do remember it being fun the last time I did it (but that was in 8th grade.)

If you're looking for more sights and it's a nice day, I suggest you visit Kerry Park which is located in Queen Anne near Seattle Center where the Space Needle is. Probably only a 10 minute drive and gives a nice view of the Seattle skyline and beyond.

If you're going to Pike Place Market (where they throw the fish) then I also suggest you look for the "gum wall" located in a nearby alley. You will know it when you see it.

I highly, highly suggest going to visit the University of Washington. It's the oldest university on the west coast and has some beautiful architecture. Also as I mentioned before, I work there, so I could meet up with you if you're in the area. There's cheap street parking available if that's a concern.

If you do go to the U-District, then I also suggest visiting Gasworks Park. It offers gorgeous views of the water and yet another view of the Seattle skyline (like in this picture I took two weeks ago: https://sphotos.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ash3/561256_10101226948981308_10731392_61981312_2103452485_n.jpg)

Downtown is just a nice place to explore; the Seattle Public Library is pretty great and if you're into it, you may also want to check out the Seattle Art Museum (the SAM.)

Since you'll be in Seattle Center, you might also want to check out the Pacific Science Center. It's a science museum that's mainly aimed at kids, but I hear they have a King Tut exhibit right now that sounds pretty awesome. While you're in Seattle Center, be sure to check out the fountain. It's very, very close to where the Space Needle is and you literally cannot miss it if you look around for it.

What other kinds of things are you trying to do? If I knew I'd be able to give more specific suggestions, but those things that I mentioned are always the first things that come to mind when someone says they're visiting Seattle.

Great suggestions! I don't travel a ton, so I'm not overly particular about what I see when I go to a place. I just like to soak up as much of the area as I can (other than when I went to Detroit... wasn't very enthused about soaking that up). Looks like this'll keep me occupied.

Hope Thursday winds up working out!
