Do you think any of us would REALLY be adventurers?
I sometimes think about this. Like, am I just faking it, when I play an RPG? But it's not fair, because real life doesn't have an equivalent.
We live in a world that's clearly not like those of RPGs. There's really not much black and white to situations, and it doesn't help that our postmodern mindset makes us always doubtful over whether we're really right or wrong, unlike a medieval, you're-God's-enemy-I'm-his-champion kind of mindset.
Plus, adventurers really reside in the fringes of society, where normal police forces may be thin or ill equipped to deal with the wide range of threats. It's a lot different to go fight for one warlord or another in an impoverished country than it is to go fight against monsters in a frontier community.
I don't want to drop my things in this world and take up vigilante justice, because I'll probably get arrested unless I'm certified, and it's not really adventure anyways. I'm not going off into an exciting place, I'm going to a dirty, dingy city and making a couple bucks for tracking down a drug-seller.
So clearly there's no comparison. But if there was... would any of us actually be adventurers?

I wouldn't be an adventurer. I'd be an academic enchanter who spends his magically extended lifespan studying spells of ostensibly intense theoretical interest and pooh-poohing assistant professors who are tramping around the country throwing fireballs at things while the tenure clock ticks away.

I'd probably run around making lewd comments and trying to sleep with as many women as possible. And if I happened upon a group of adventurers, I would probably promote non violence while peeing on people when I feel the urge.

I think I would, also, stay how I am now. Family takes priority. The closest to adventure I'll get is purposely challenging myself in nature situations (survival camping type stuff, which I am slowly preparing for (I need both more gear and more knowledge)), or if I need to use my Life Backup Plan. My LBP is that if I lose my job and can't quickly find another one, I go into the Army ASAP, sign up to be a medic, serve my time and then when I come out I can easily be a nurse due to my medic training. If I get less training than I expect, then maybe only an EMT, and if more than I expect, then maybe a doctor.
