As a counterpoint to the comebacks topic, are there any particularly good quips you made that went unappreciated?

When I was in a sexual-harassment seminar last fall, the presenter related an anecdote about a graduate student teaching a course who was being aggressively courted by one of his own students. The grad student didn't accept the undergrad's advances, but neither did he report her or try to get transferred to a different course. He just courageously endured it. I interjected "Does he wear a green sash now?". Nobody got it.

Perhaps the joke is on me, actually, since Wikipedia reminds me that Gawain wore the lady's girdle, not a sash; the sashes were what the other knights wore.

I didn't get it either. Do most people know about this green sash deal?

No, that was my point.

I'm a medievalist and a good chunk of my research was about Arthurian lit (though mostly earlier than Gawain) and I wouldn't have gotten that b/c it seems completely irrelevant to the discussion at hand, especially if it was mostly Psych people,

I assumed that at your institution sex offenders had to wear green sashes to keep undergrads away from them.

Willis, it seems like every other time you post, I need to look up a word that's in the OED or Urban Dictionary but not both.

Says the guy who makes multilingual puns and then gets sad when people feel intimidated by him.

I'm gonna come out and say it: The pun is a more refined form of humor than the casual allusion.

I am less refined than you in general: in particular, I don't capitalize after colons. So I guess that works for me.

When you talk about grammar in front of freepizza, he gets dazed and his head starts making wobbly circles and it's time to FINISH HIM

I only capitalize after an intactcolon if there's an independent clause following one.

This topic is funny, but I don't have anything to add, tragically.
