I'm mostly apathetic to the fellow, though I hold him in higher esteem than Disney Channel stars since I think he's somewhat more self made and is convenient to use in arguments about whether or not media which arises on the internet can become profitable.

I enjoy seeing a child succeed (well, enjoyed—Wikipedia says he's eighteen now), although I'm miffed that children are generally allowed to succeed only in acting or music.

I don't really care for the rabid part of his fanbase, but I can't hate on him because he is somewhat more self made. And he was found in thanks to YouTube, which I think is great.
Now if only Asian American artists could get the cred and recognition that he gets, then I'd be super excited. But everyone gets their turn, I guess.
