Short Thoughts, Good Handwriting

Topic List

So I started doing this new thing on my blog/Facebook where I post up a post-it note with a random thought for the day. I haven't heard of anyone else doing this so far (though the odds of me being the only one who actually does this I'd consider to be small), but it's a fun thing and my friends seem to like it. So, just in case you haven't been seeing them, I guess I'll post them here too. And maybe you can discuss them if you like. The first two were mostly just jokes, but the ones that came after that were more "in line" with what I had in mind when I started this project.

And yes, I keep all of the post-it notes so that one day, maybe after a year, I can make a giant collage of my thoughts.

You and I were the most prolific Random Thinkers, so perhaps it indeed makes sense for us each to have his own topic.

I do like your handwriting. And, by the way, I really like your name. Having a short name and a long-but-not-too-long last name is always nice, and I've always thought "Solomon" was a cool name, perhaps because of the association with wisdom.

Serves you right for having like a million friends.

My dad says that his dad was such a horrible father that his usual method of making parenting decisions is to think what his dad would've done and then do the opposite. My dad is a good one, so the method seems to work.

And I don't know if it's really a consequence of having a lot (not nearly a million) of friends as much as it is mutually not making enough effort to keep contact up to avoid that 'been so long' feeling. I mean, there are definitely cases where it is warranted to say that it's been a long time since you've seen someone, especially when it's true.

And I actually made that observation when I was writing a paper in a high school English class on Huck Finn, but I've definitely noticed that there have been people that I've said "I will never be like that person," and acted accordingly. I think it's important to have both positive and negative examples so that you can carve out your own space somewhere in between them.
