I heard 0 words about it as recently as two weeks ago. Then I hear about it on a Jdate and we're both all "well that sounds dumb" and now apparently everyone I know is dressed up in a santa outfit in Manhattan.

Yesterday, I was taking the LIRR from Stony Brook to Penn Station and I noticed a lot of people dressed up as Santa or elves. I guessed they worked in stores where everybody was expected to dress up around Christmas, but I overheard somebody else ask one of the Santas what the deal was, and he said it was Santacon. Which I'd never heard of before, either. Apparently its chief characteristics are the costumes, work for charity, and beer.

You've never heard of it before? It's been going on for years now, though this is the biggest I've ever seen it, so it's been snowballing for a while. But yeah, it's pretty much dress up in Santa (or other Christmas) costumes and go on a bar crawl.

What constitutes a JDate? Telling me that's a website really doesn't explain how what you went on was a JDate or what one is.

I don't think the term works that well if all it communicates is where you met them. You don't really go on a grocery store date or a mutual friend date. I thought there was maybe something distinctly Jewy about it.
