Which I find ironic, as a high school teacher. But I get so jittery and nervous speaking to non-students.

There's a pretty big difference between being bad at public speaking and getting nervous when you're speaking in front of your non-usual audience. I'd hazard to guess you're better than you think.

Today I saw a bunch of the students in the "intro to public speaking" class have their finals in the main part of campus today, which is to give a speech outside. One of the more fun classes I ever took back during undergrad.

What do you think it is about speaking to non-students that gets you nervous?

I'm not sure. A fear of looking dumb? But I doubt that's it, because it still happens when I present to my colleagues, too, who I am all friends with.
