So I was over at my friend's place last week and while we were hanging out, she asked me if I would take her to this masquerade-themed club event that an organization we're both a part of is holding, since her boyfriend (also one of my best friends) is working night shift at one of the local hospitals over this weekend.
Originally I was just planning on wearing some plain mask I wore at a different masquerade themed thing I went to a couple years ago, but then one of my other friends gave me the idea to go as Iron Man.
He loaned me his Iron Man mask/helmet thing, and I'm pairing it with a red dress shirt, gold tie, black vest, and black pants.
To tie it all together, I bought some inexpensive red stage gloves from a local costume store, some velcro, and closet LED tap lights and made some repulsor blast-firing gloves. I'm pretty proud of these.
I'm going to keep the right glove for myself and then I made a matching left glove for her to wear. She has no idea I'm going as Iron Man so I'm pretty excited to see the expression on her face.
I haven't had time to try everything on all together yet so there aren't any pictures of the full outfit, but really I'm just proud of the fact I had the idea of making these gloves. The lights came in a pack of three, so I was going to use the third one to make an arc reactor for my chest, but I realized nobody would see it (and it would be impractical) if I were already wearing a dress shirt, tie, and vest over where it would normally be. --- http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v129/ukealii50/kylo.jpg - Thanks uke! http://img193.imageshack.us/img193/829/07kyloforce.png - Thanks Diyosa!

That's pretty freggin impressive. I went to a masquerade once, but everyone ended up ditching the masks about 20 minutes in and then it was just another college apartment party.
And the arc reactor might be worth it, if it shines bright enough to see through the shirt. Might be worth at least a look at, you know? And if someone actually does ask you about it BAM TEAR YOUR SHIRT OFF LIKE YOU'RE SUPERMAN BECAUSE YOU'RE AWESOME AND CROSS UNIVERSES AT WILL --- Well, there is a new accent of n00b language. I ended up ditching the arc reactor idea, but I think it came together well enough:

Me with my date. She loved that I made one of the blast gloves for her too. I was surprised with how well they held up over the course of the evening, but by the end of the night the adhesive on the velcro holding the light onto the glove started to wear off. Still, I'm pleasantly surprised it lasted as long as it did.
