Days like today are making me question my plan to live in Minneapolis/bike everywhere.

Geez, that's hot. But how did you, a Minnesotan, get to thinking in metric units?

Let's see... Double it... Drop 10 percent... Add 32... Damn, yup that is quite a scorcher. In the low 90's over here in Michigan!

The high for today in Manhattan is 98 °F. :0

I am so glad the students won't be in in this heat today. Sad I have to be.

Whoa, that's much easier. I was multiplying by 9 and then dividing by 5.
It (hopefully) just topped out at 106 F.
I'm dying.

I've only experienced 106 F once, two summers ago, when it peaked over 100 in Seattle for the first time in either forever or for the first time ever. It remained over 90 overnight. It broke my laptop battery and my charger. I'm sure other electronics and other devices that were in my apartment have never been the same again.

Yesterday morning's temperature: 10. WTF, Minnesota?

A good method for estimating C-->F is to double and add 30. While not as precise, it works for the normal temperatures we come across well enough.
(Damn, now my math brain decided I have to figure out exactly how good is "well enough", give me a second.)
...
Alright, at most a 8.4% error for the highest temperature ever recorded (136º F), 13.8% error for the lowest temperature ever recorded (128.6º F).
5.7% error for the highest temp in NYC (107º F), 21.5% error for the lowest temperature ever recorded? Ah, because it's a lower magnitude, the relative error is higher, maybe not the best way of measuring...
...
Perhaps I should just say +/- 4º F, at most, and usually less, since the intersection of the system F = 2C+30 and F = (9/5)C+32 is (10,50), that is, when it is 10ºC, you will get 50ºF using both systems, and that's a pretty middle of the range temp right there. Who cares about extremes?

I see, I didn't know there was a difference. I was just pressing alt+ any key on my keyboard until I found one that looked like the degree sign, since I didn't remember that actual command and didn't feel like using the character map.
