I believe I was in band with her my Sophomore year of high school, before I moved. I don't believe we ever talked, or anything, I only vaguely remembered the name when it was first mentioned by a friend on facebook. I find myself more in shock than i would have expected.

That's awful news. I'm sorry to hear it. I know you didn't know her well, but nevertheless, a death is a death, and much worse when it was untimely and violent. :\

A friend in high school committed suicide my junior year. I hadn't really talked to him in about a year when it happened.
I broke down a few days later.
I know exactly how you're feeling. I was in shock for awhile, then it just kinda went away....and then smacked me right back in the face.
