Am I wrong to not make any preparations for it?

This morning I got a call from my sister (who taught in New York for three years) telling me she had received some sort of automated phone call advising her about city evacuations.
I went back to bed and didn't think about it again until I saw this topic. However, Weather.com's prediction of 62 mph winds on Sunday has me a little worried.

My parents recalled me to Manhattan. I guess I'll either miss the first day of classes or it won't occur as scheduled.

Yes,you are underreacting. I've been getting warningsfromthestate and homeland security for the last two days. The most recent track and warning they sent me is

Yeah, but I don't live in any of the evacuation zones.

That doesn't mean you will keep power. Have you laid by any water or non-perishables?

I've got tons of non-perishables from going to BJs recently. I guess I should fill up all my pitchers with water. I mean, I usually have them full and then drink them.

Oh, my professor makes a good point: I should really make sure I do laundry before it hits.

Fill your bathtub so you can flush. . . .

Gary, you can probably point out how I'm horribly wrong: it seems like it's much more likely that the water would become tainted than that the actual pumps would stop working. So flushing won't be a problem so much as drinking.
How am I horribly wrong?

Willis, it seems like every other time you post, I need to look up a word that's in the OED or Urban Dictionary but not both.

I keep forgetting you guys live in the city. If your building is more than 5 stories then it works on a gravity feed (is there a water tank on the roof of your building?) In that case you will still have water for a while, though if the power goes out the tank won't refill. As for contamination, unlikely unless the tank itself gets damaged and begins to admit rain water.
Unfortunately I have a well, so once the power is out, the water is completely cut off.

I just took the dog for a walk. She was not pleased.

Up in Stamford. It's okay. We lost power for like a minute last night but it's okay now. Of course the storm's not actually here yet.

I was confused when I woke up and it wasn't raining.

Well, that was pleasantly uneventful.

Me too! Pretty excited because I wasn't at all productive this weekend, so I could use the extra day.

I had my productive plans ruined by the impossibility of travel on Friday, so I'm making it up now.

First-world problem: my Internet connection in Long Island is out, so I have to use tethering to post on GameFAQs.
