Room seperator curtains

So I've got an upstairs loft-esque bedroom in my apartment, where I've lived alone for 4 months. Now I have a roommate. My room is sorta open, so I tried to hang up these curtains to close of my bed section and block both light and sound from escaping. They're good at the light, but only so-so when it comes to sound. Any suggestions on how to improve my soundproofedness?

Really my only suggestion would be a comfortable set of earphones and your favorite wordless music at night. That's probably as good as it will get.

I assume you're not up for putting up sheet rock?

Willis, it seems like every other time you post, I need to look up a word that's in the OED or Urban Dictionary but not both.

Oh PS I'm totally moving to Astoria once I post this message. We should hang in the coming days.

No, sheet rock is a no go. The problem with walls (and the reason we went with curtains) is that the ceiling is also slanted, making it hard to have something with a rigid height.

Jon, my concern is less with incoming noise than with outgoing noise.
