I just had to kick in my own door.

Because my roommate (or, more likely, his boyfriend) chained the door before I got home.

But, in fact, it felt kind of awesome.

If the door was chained, shouldn't the chainer have been inside? Were you unable to contact him?

Is there much damage to repair?

Also, wouldn't the kicking damage the lock, but not the chain? This seems wholly suboptimal.

Willis, it seems like every other time you post, I need to look up a word that's in the OED or Urban Dictionary but not both.

I was unable to contact them. I tried for 10 minutes, making a huge amount of noise and calling them repeatedly, but to no avail.

And since it was the chain, I could unlock the door and open it a little, like you do, and then kick it in, damaging only the chain and not the rest of the door.

Oh, right. Well that's the clearly preferable alternative, then. What were they doing that they didn't hear? I assume passed out from substance abuse or nekked.

I had a roommate once who insisted on locking the dead bolt to which neither of us had a key if I weren't home by 10:00 pm. It was extremely irritating and alienating.

Nice. One time I was staying at a hotel and the little latch on the inside of the door, that you can only activate from inside, randomly closed itself somehow (we probably shut the door in JUST the wrong way).

We talked to hotel maintenance and they sent a guy to kick the door down. It was awesome.

My respect/appreciation for Jacehan just skyrocketed.
