Anyone else found experienced that the Mac spotlight search is worlds inferior to the Windows start menu search in Windows Vista and up?

I compare it to looking for a video on youtube using youtube (Spotlight)

Looking for a video on youtube, using google (Windows search)

I've never found a search-everything-in-the-universe package that I really liked. I use GNU locate and find for finding files by name, grep and ack for finding files by content, and Google for the Web, and they all work well. Searching my contacts in Thunderbird isn't great, but Mozilla will be replacing Mork with SQLite any day now, they swear. Oh, and one other thing I'd really like to see is a way to search the Web with regular expressions.

Windows Search searches content... you need to add your whole hard drive to the list of what to keep an index on.

Spotlight is world betters than the Windows Search that was in XP and prior, but I haven't tried it in anything past XP, so I can't say.

No doubt brother, xp search was worthless.

I don't think either the windows search or spotlight are that good at finding files, but Windows search excels at finding the programs and utilities you want.

Yeah, search got dramatically better starting in Windows Vista even. And so much faster. That was one of the main reason I was like "Huh, Vista's not so bad."

It's pretty minor too, but the keyboard shortcut for Windows search is only one button (Windows key), while the shortcut for Spotlight is 3 (Command+Option+Space). Three times more convenient.

You don't need option for spotlight, it's just command+space.
