This guy is. Played the original off and on...since it's been out. Just recently started a run with my gal, still very fun.

I've just started catching up with the development on the new one and I got to say I'm pretty pumped.

Eh. I can't get into the WOW-style (used to be DII-style) grinding.

I had a moment when playing DII when I realized that I was clicking on the same spot over and over again and that was kind of it.

Best clicking in one spot experience ever.

I would argue that the grind in Diablo is different from the grind in WOW. In wow you are primarily grinding for level, or materials, or specific kills. In Diablo you are grinding for loot. Maybe not a significant difference, but that element of randmoness and wonder in D2 has compelled me far more than WOW.

Yeah I'll give you that, and that was definitely what sustained my interest before I met guys who played DII for Team Serious and already had all the cool loot.

Like, playing through the game to get to the next tier of weapons or skills was cool, because I didn't know what to expect, but once the next item tier became a palette swap, I got a little shaky. It was fun getting an awesome new item, but the really high level stuff--running Baal to try to get a Buriza with ideal ED--really depressed the hell out of me.

But yeah, I don't mean to knock it. All told, they were fine hours I spent clicking in one spot.

I never got into the mega high end stuff actually. The most fun I had was with a character with great magic find that could do runs to find cool stuff. In all my years I only found 1 soj and it was one of my better gaming experiences.

I also spent a good amount of time with a modded version of the game, Median. The mod exceeded on the single player of the original game in my opinion.

You might find real roguelikes a bit more intellectually stimulating.

I've decided to live my life devoid of any intellectual stimulation. I wouldn't say that it makes me happy (What is happiness anyway). Everything in life has reason and meaning, and I am committed to avoiding that as much as possible at the detriment to myself and if need be, and in hope, others.

And that's not supposed to mean anything. Alex told it to me as a razz, wanted me to share it, see how it went.

I played DII dozens of times...and each time only getting to Act II before stopping. So...probably not.

I breathed a couple more months of life into DII with a mod called Ancestral Recall which was essentially "you get a bunch of +1 all skills equipment off that unique zombie in act 1 and all the monsters are hard as hell so you hit ungodly high levels very quickly." I enjoyed it well enough, but the game having a more pleasant and rewarding progression really killed the artificial replay value.

Actually, James, it also cut out large swaths of Acts II and III--basically anything that was a multi-level repetitive dungeon got added to the Countess's tower and was completely optional.

My roommate's getting this, so I think I may as well too. I dunno though. In the end, MMOs are boring to me.

It's not an MMO, in the traditional understanding of the word. Diablo is a Co-op Action RPG . MMO's tend to house whole populations in a single world.
