The school dance was yesterday. All my students are so socially awkward.

And they're boring. The most dancing they did was to the Cha Cha Slide.

Never forget that boring can be a good thing. People at my high school at a dance once had the idea to jump up and down on the bathroom sink in the men's room until it fell off the wall. That was all sorts of convenient as no one was allowed to leave the lunchroom during lunch, and it took a good week or two to fix.

My high school dances were...interesting...to say the least...

My high school dances were rather sparsely attended, what with how it was an all-male school.

(And your story serves as evidence of how hard it is to approach someone you know; nobody had the stones to go up to a total stranger. Also, obvious followup: Any of the gay guys I knew who were out as a rule were too cool to attend a school dance, what with the extreme lowness of the bar for "too cool for a school dance.")

Willis, it seems like every other time you post, I need to look up a word that's in the OED or Urban Dictionary but not both.

In high school, in 12th grade gym class, we had a dance unit. I hated it. At the end of the unit, students had to go to an evening dance to show off the moved they learned (generally with a parent to dance with, they said). Alternatively, you could write a 10-page essay about the dances we learned (double-spaced -- they weren't monsters). I chose to write about how much I hate the Cha Cha Slide.

I love to dance. But you all already know that.

I did security for a high school dance a couple years ago. That was awkward.

The gym class paper at least sounds like an excuse for fun and cheek, though.

Well, the dance itself was really nice, though. A dance on the roof of the school at dusk with a lovely view of Manhattan...what a setting.

All the teachers decided they wanted to secretly have a real party up there.

If the kids were into the Cha Cha Slide, which I still think is great, then that means they should be ready for more dances that explicitly tell them what to do. Maybe somebody should "teach them how to dougie."

How old are your students Jace? Middle school?

And on the rooftop of ANYTHING is an awesome place for a party.

Yeah you should have a rooftop party.

Haha, you should see Pleasant Valley's dances. They all turn into one big grind train. Let's see, I remember grinding at Homecoming and Prom... I didn't really go to any of the other school dances, but I'm sure they turned into the same thing...
