A proverb that rang true to me today was, "Don't count your chickens before they hatch." I was thinking about how debt is bad and how we are gambling on our future when we spend on credit and how if you use cash in hand you're taking no risk because you're using the fruits you already have of the labor you already did. And that old proverb just came to me and I'd never thought about it that way before.

All true. Although, I think people who rack up credit-card debt do so not even by thinking they'll make the money they need later, but by mindlessly spending and not even keeping track of how much debt they've accumulated in a given month.

Also true.

Anyhow, I believe sometimes the risk is worth the reward; but not often. For example, if you need a job, and get a good one, but can't get there because you don't have a car, it is probably worthwhile to buy an affordable car and work, rather than to simply not work (because life has its expenses regardless of your status as a car owner).

However, when there's not really any pressing need to take the risk, then just hold on.

Yeah, there are certain things. If you get cancer you might as well go into debt to get healthcare because if you don't, you're going to die. If you need a car, that may be the only way to get ahead.

When I was first fired up about this the other day it was because I was upset that previous generations racked up debt and that the current voting public is also just going to pass the buck onto the next generation. Seems real unfair that they mortgaged their children and their children's children.

That's the charms of democracy. Robots, anyone?

No robocracy! Come on man. Whoever programs the robots has the power.
