I've had to set up tents in the dark while it's raining many a time. Usually, those were always the fastest setups.

Well, really the answer is to set up camp before it's dark, even if it's raining. Otherwise you will make critical errors like having a tarp that pools water beneath the tent instead of keeping it out, thus having it seep through and completely soak me and all my stuff, leading me to sleep in the campsite shower instead of the tent.
