Anybody else planning on buying it?

Apparently Deus Ex 1 is like $10 on Steam. I'm thinking of picking that up. See how that goes.

It's one of the very few single-player games I've ever played through more than once. In fact, I'll go ahead and say it's the best single-player PC game I've ever played.

Honestly, I was kind of baiting you. Fans usually describe it with such hyperbole that I figured you'd fly into a nerdrage at the thought that I was deliberating about buying it.

Since we can apparently link to SA again, here's a link, except be careful because there are probably naughty people saying naughty things there:

Yeah, I think I made it obvious in various ways that I don't really like fanboyism, so I try to avoid nerd rages. Does this mean you already have played it, or is it still true that you don't have it / haven't played it?

It is a very sweet game, and one of the few FPS games I can think of with any real substance.

Not played yet; but it's on my to do list.

I'm realizing that since I don't spend much time with the video games anymore, I ought to make an attempt not to play the mediocre ones when I could be playing the excellent ones. Basically, I feel about not having played Deus Ex the same way I feel having not read Joyce except for the one time in the abortion clinic but that was mostly an irony thing. Which is to say that I've put three or four hours into Invisible War, but everyone says that one's vastly inferior.

Ya know, I liked Invisible War. A lot of people are down on it but I thought it was a worthy sequel. Maybe not as cyberpunk-feeling, and there were certainly some things I liked better from Deus Ex the original (separate ammo, spaces-based inventory), but still very much a DX game.

I had fun with it, but I sort of ended up in a deadlock of wondering whether playing the original will ruin me on the inferior sequel, or whether the sequel will ruin me on the superior original with fewer features. Like how Morrowind was a better game by far than Oblivion (which is in turn better than most of the things in the universe) but the combat is now so clunky and awful that I'd probably rather play Oblivion.

This may be the most first world problem I have ever described.

So anyone getting Deus Ex 3? I probably am.

I just got Deus Ex off Steam (and Mass Effect for... less than I paid for Deus Ex? I don't get it) and I've played a few hours. It's pretty awesome, just the happy medium between Splinter Cell's "you need to do everything perfect so save every fifteen feet and load 79 times per fifteen feet" and Halo's "shoot 'em all continuously and God will know his own" philosophy.

I like the fact that the government is clearly *a* bad guy, but the freedom fighting groups are also composed largely of bad guys, because it gives the impression that everyone's just trying to do their best, but they're all fundamentally flawed, and every group attracts some crazies. Although I've only met the NSA so far. I guess I support their political agenda (there was a news clipping about them rallying around the repealing of the second amendment) but at the same time I have a *really* high NSA body count. Like, I only ended up taking down like three guys during the Statue of Liberty segment, but then I got to that subway hostage thing, and I couldn't find a way to do it except to throw down some tear gas and run around capping people.

It was kind of not cool.

It's tough to go through the game without kills. Like you said, it's a lot of reloading, particularly at sensitive parts like the hostage situation.
