I'm *offended* by Alan Wake's ending (Only Vague Spoilers)

So it's one step above "...and it was all a dream!", the last line of dialogue is a joke my friends and I have been spouting as an example of what a really half-assed final line of dialogue would be ("Alan, it's time to wake"), and the credits play to a famous song that is in a complete thematic disconnect with the events of the game.

It sucks, because the game was totally aware of all sorts of genre conventions throughout, and repeatedly tried to avoid them, or tricked you into expecting them only to see them subverted. And then that ending. Man, that ending.

Willis, it seems like every other time you post, I need to look up a word that's in the OED or Urban Dictionary but not both.

Sounds like a job well done to me; you said yourself that they did pretty much the opposite of what was expected.

You joke, but that was where my mind went first. The protagonist is a huge jerk, so it's not entirely unlikely they were going for "this guy got so wrapped up in his own bull**** that he decided to do the stupid cliche thing although he didn't have to," but that interpretation isn't actually anywhere in the text, it would just be nice for me.
