I got a nice wireless Logitech headset (my old wired one was broken by my kids pulling on wires), a motorcycle cover, a bunch of flashlight type stuff (not sure why but I got 6 lights when all was said and done; this really does mystify me), a nice pair of jeans, a cinema-style popcorn popper (I *love* popcorn) and two Groupons -- one for a CPL class and one shooting range package for 2. Oh, and two "hobo tool" type things (one for me and one for Jess) which is like a pocket knife but with fork/knife/spoon.

I've been telling family the last couple years that I want to stock up on camping stuff, and I'm almost done doin' that. :) Yay

I got nothing but a single joke present, a combination laser pointer and lollipop. I detest presents.

a CPL class

Wikipedia's disambiguation page isn't helping me here. Is it cybernetic polo-lacrosse? Chthonic paelolithography? Cantaloupe-peel longboarding? Or maybe a typo for "CPR"?

Shoulda tried Google ;)

It's Concealed Pistol License.
#004 | Kodiologist |
So that's separate from a gun license? But why would you want to conceal a gun, anyway? I thought the pro-gun argument hinged on guns as a deterrent.

You're allowed to openly carry and some people do. I personally don't want to look like a gun person -- I don't necessarily care for the culture or the stigma. I'd just like to have one on me in case a situation arises where it'd come in handy.

If you're in a public place and looking to rob or rape or otherwise harm somebody and there are like 100 people openly carrying, then yeah it's a huge deterrent. If there's only one dude carrying though, that guy is your first target to shoot, disarm, or whatever.

Oh. That's easy to understand.

I guess that makes sense.

Why do you despise gifts?

I'm not sure. I've felt that way since I was twelve. I dislike the social posturing, the indirectness, and the waste of the whole process of gift-giving. Altogether, it reeks of impracticality.

I got a bunch of games, some clothes, and cash. I'm pretty satisfied.

Gonna be buying a new suit or two and some dancing clothes/shoes in the next week or so. I guess they'll count as Christmas gifts to myself or something.

Kylo- I got both Sleeping Dogs and SSX among that assortment of games

I dislike social posturing too. BUM and I have a nice understanding that we don't get each other gifts. Maybe when we're older and we both have money or whatever, but right now, not necessary. Most of my friends, I wouldn't want getting me gifts because I don't like the risk of not liking them and coming off as an ingrate. I also don't want to buy them something that I'm not sure they'll like.

With Jess it's different. I know what she likes and I always get her things that she absolutely loves. So, it's really a joy to exchange gifts with her. She's good at getting me cool stuff as well.

LP1 you gotta show us a pic of the suit when you get it

Sleeping Dogs won't disappoint you. It was my game of the year. Ironically, SSX is one of my all-time favorite franchises, and I even bought the new one, but I've barely played it. I think it's become one of those series where if it can't match SSX 3, no matter how good it is, I'll still be disappointed by it.

I'm also seconding the 'let us see the suit' as stated above.

I got some cash, which I wasn't expecting, a multi-tool from one of my uncles, and one of my best friends gave me a leather wallet.

The funny story behind the wallet is that it was well known that until a few months ago I had been using the same wallet that I had gotten as a Christmas present back in the 7th grade. It was finally too beat up for me to use, so I bought myself a paper wallet (Mightywallet brand) to replace it. It has a grey and black checkered pattern. However, I almost didn't buy it because my friend has pajama pants and a scarf that have the exact same pattern, so I figured it might be awkward that my wallet reminds me of his pants. I got over this fairly quickly, but we still got a good laugh out of it when I pulled it out to pay for a meal this one time and he happened to be wearing the "matching" scarf. After I opened it, I told him that, since I was fairly sure that he didn't own any brown leather pants, we wouldn't have to worry about the matching problem ever again.

I always have a problem remembering which presents were birthday and which were Christmas, so I'll just list both. I got some video games (Portal 2 and Arkham City), some books (The Signal and the Noise, My Two Moms, Adventure Time Volume 1, an IOU for Hyrule Historia), some board games (Triology, Dominion, Star Wars Epic Duels), some clothes, and a ticket to see Wicked this Sunday. (My sister and cousin also got a ticket.) Also some rare spices and rechargable batteries.

I love rechargeable batteries! Not sure how I ever lived without 'em.

I've had these battery packs for my Wiimotes that have worked fine, but at about 6-7 years old they are not really lasting long. Plus now I have a 360 and a wireless mouse, so I need more. Living above a 99-cent store helped, because I could easily pop down and buy more for cheap. But it was still pretty annoying.

The suits have been purchased! They won't be ready for a few days though.

Alex, not to turn this into gunchat, but it's a historical fact that armed civilians have not effectively intervened in shootings/violent situations. What *have* affect emergent situations like are, say, off-duty cops and security guards, that is people trained to deal with those exact situations.

What I'm saying is that it's irresponsible to concealed carry BUT NOT go and do periodic awesome small arms training. This is the place my bro goes every once in a while for a couple of days of learning to fend off home invasions:

Can't speak to practicality or awesomeness personally, but, y'know.

Willis, it seems like every other time you post, I need to look up a word that's in the OED or Urban Dictionary but not both.
