Kind of. It's a volunteer organic farming program. About 20-30 hours a week. Ranging from cheesemaking to greenhouse operations.
It takes place at small, family owned organic farms. Though they're not always farms, sometimes they're like a bed-and-breakfast or whatever. The program is in a lot of different countries, it's called wwoof. I'll be traveling to France for the duration of about 11 1/2 weeks. I don't know if I'll have any internet access-- though I live at the family's expense in terms of food and housing, I'm not sure if they have internet at the farms and how often I'll be able to use it.
Why would I do this, well, who really knows? Only that my normal job is seasonal and I wouldn't have anything to do this winter anyways unless I found a small time job. I'd like to learn more about self-sufficiency and see France as well so I figured, I'll kill two birds with one stone and not really miss out on work, since I'll be back April 3rd, right as the season is opening up. Then, maybe I'll finally have a few practical skills, other than crocheting.
Anyways, little anxious, but we'll see. Hopefully I survive (no guarantees but Alex will let you know if I am dead, I'm sure he'll find out from my mother or something) and will be back shortly. Maybe I'll also be able to get some internet access now and again.

Life with unreliable Internet? Inconceivable!
What is your normal job, by the way?

I'm not dead yet.
Environmental ed-- for kids. I work at a nature center. Nothing advanced, it's mostly elementary-level classes for field-tripping kids. Ranging from outdoor survival to ecosystem stuff. It's a lot of fun but not a possible career. Being a non-profit it pays diddly.
Hoping to get back into the National Park Service. Pays a lot better though the work is a lot easier.

If he's dead I plan to use my encyclopedic knowledge of him to guess his GameFAQs password and keep the charade going as long as possible.
I approve of this plan, provided that, for at least a moment before the cat's out of the bag, you pretend to be Travis pretending to be Monty pretending to be Monty's sister pretending to be BUM.

I'm not dead yet.
Which brings up the big ticket issue, how do they know that's not already what's happening?
I mean, really, a farming trip? Someone's gotta be making this up.

Have fun in France. I have never been to Europe. And if you learn how to make cheese, I want some.

Willis, it seems like every other time you post, I need to look up a word that's in the OED or Urban Dictionary but not both.
