I have a fedora, but fedoras are meant to be worn with dress clothes and/or an overcoat. Which is fine normally, as that's what I usually wear 5-6 days of the week and/or 3 out of 4 seasons of the year. But when I don't, such as during the summer, I need another type of hat.
Difficulty: I hate caps (baseball and flat/newsie both). They don't serve the purpose of a hat (keeping the elements off your head).

The purpose of a hat is to keep rain off your head? Actually, I wear only baseball caps, the purpose being to keep the sun out of my eyes. But that's largely an albino thing, of course.

The Following 0 Users Say Thank You to Kodiologist For This Useful Post:
1. You could try a quirky fedora... something that looks like it's not meant to be worn in a professional/formal environment.
2. http://vermontcountrystore.scene7.com/is/image/vermontcountrystore/17669_set?$nuThumb_lg2$ I don't really see the appeal but you may
3. a wool stocking cap
4. peruse Amazon, they helpfully break these up into categories I wouldn't have even known the name for: http://www.amazon.com/b?ie=UTF8&node=2474954011
I'm a rather big fan of beanies myself. Not sure if those are too casual for you, though...

Get an Indiana Jones hat?

I have one of those cuban dictator hats they sell at H&M.
I actually have two of that exact hat. One is grayish and one is greenish and they are easily misidentified with one another.

Willis, it seems like every other time you post, I need to look up a word that's in the OED or Urban Dictionary but not both.

I almost bought that exact hat today. Instead, I settled for a ridiculous pair of red pants that I can't imagine any occasion for which they will be practical.

I wish you meant this one: http://www.shotgunnews.com/wp-content/blogs.dir/12/files/tyrant-toppers-dictatorial-headgear/mussolini.jpg
But I know you meant this one: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Banning-White-Chicks-From-Wearing-Cuban-Dictator-Hats/106900129349206
Well the ones I have are less puffy than that.

HeyDude posted...
Isn't that a fedora?
That wouldn't surprise me. I know almost nothing about hats. Though I was under the impression that fedoras had a shorter rim than Indiana Jones'.

Kodi: When I say the elements, I include the sun in that. But I don't see the point of keeping sun out of only my eyes, rather than my whole head.
So really, to that point, a brimmed hat is what I want.
Will: Isn't a Cuban Dictator Hat still just a cap?
The second one Alex posted is possibly acceptable? I dunno.

I've never really been a hat-wearer. I did it for a fashion show once and it looked pretty good, though.

Otherwise, the only other time I used to wear a hat/beanie for was when I would volunteer at football games, and it would be really cold.

I do have this really kickass neon hat that I wear at work during emergencies and emergency drills so that others can find me, because I'm a point person for our office. I don't actually mind this hat very much. Also, my hair is usually styled in a fauxhawk, and even after wearing this hat for an extended period of time, my hair goes back into its styled shape. It's one of the mysteries of the universe.
