It's just the most insane thing, and while I can't watch it for any extended period of time without getting frustrated, I like watching the progress of the doomed journey.

I've been reading the topic on LL every once in awhile and it sounds like something I wouldn't be able to stand watching for more than maybe 10 minutes at a time, but at the same time, I find it pretty astounding that they've been able to make the progress that they have, including catching Zapdos.
However, after hearing about the seemingly endless hours of PC shuffling hell, I lost interest. But yeah, I'll probably just be checking on it (they have a Google Doc going with progress, right?) every once in awhile. It is a cool experiment, for sure.

Democracy is not always better, I'm finding. It's too slow. It should only be used in really tricky situations.

What, in your own words, is Twitch Plays Pokemon?
Twitch is a website where you can stream a video of something, often a game, and people can chat along and comment. Someone made an emulator of Pokemon Red and rigged it so that if you type "left" into the chat, the character moves left, etc. It accepts all such commands, and so it is essentially a game of Pokemon being played by 40,000 people simultaneously.

I haven't kept up myself, but I see the coverage. And some nerd friends have gotten kind of excited and just like bring it up in social situations.
Apparently they've beaten Giovanni:

They've finally made it up to the Elite Four today. They even managed to beat Lance's last Pokemon, Dragonite, once with just Venomoth because Dragonite's AI kept instructing it to use moves that would be super effective against Venomoth's Poison-type, which would mean to use its Psychic-type moves. Unfortunately, the only Psychic-type moves Dragonite has are Agility and Barrier, both of which are non-damaging buffs. Venomoth managed to poison Dragonite with PoisonPowder and then chip damaged it to death. There was much rejoicing.

Yeah, it was really close. Pidgeot used a few sand attacks before it died to Blue's Blizzard, which probably helped because the blizzard that would have killed Zapdoes and their chances missed, so Zapdos could strike with a thundershock and win.

That's insane. I tuned in for the venomoth thing (that makes sense now, knowing that it was using psychic type moves) and then the unceremonious floorwiping.
